FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions are always welcome.
If you've never had colonic hydrotherapy before, it's completely normal to have questions. There really is no such thing as an embarrassing one.
ABOUT THE TREATMENT
What to expect.
Colonic hydrotherapy is a gentle, professional treatment designed to support your digestive health and overall well-being. We prioritize your complete comfort, absolute privacy, and professional care at every stage.
What Is Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy involves the gentle introduction of warm, filtered water into the colon through a small tube inserted into the rectum. This encourages the evacuation of bowel contents during the treatment.
Your treatment is carried out privately and discreetly, with your comfort and dignity maintained throughout.
What Happens at My First Appointment?
Before your treatment, I will review your completed health questionnaire and we’ll have a private consultation.
We’ll discuss your medical history, medications, bowel habits and any symptoms or concerns you may have. I’ll explain the treatment, answer your questions and make sure colonic hydrotherapy is appropriate for you before we proceed.
Nothing will begin until you understand the treatment and are happy to continue.
How Long Does an Appointment Take?
Please allow approximately 60 minutes for your appointment. This includes your consultation, treatment and time for aftercare advice.
Does It Hurt?
Colonic hydrotherapy should not be painful.
You may experience temporary sensations of fullness, pressure or mild cramping as your bowel responds during treatment. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, please tell me. Your treatment can be adjusted or stopped if necessary.
Is It Embarrassing?
It’s completely understandable to feel nervous or embarrassed, particularly before your first treatment.
Your privacy and dignity are extremely important to me and you will be appropriately covered throughout.
And remember — I’m a nurse. There really isn’t much you can tell me about bowels that I haven’t heard before!
Will There Be Any Smell or Mess?
The equipment is designed to provide a hygienic and discreet treatment environment, with waste contained within the system.
BEFORE YOUR VISIT
Preparing for your appointment.
Do I Need to Empty My Bowels Before I Come?

What Should I Wear?
Simply wear something comfortable. You will be given privacy to prepare for your treatment and appropriate covering will be provided.
HEALTH & SUITABILITY
Is treatment right for me?
Is Colonic Hydrotherapy Suitable for Everyone?
No. Colonic hydrotherapy is not appropriate for everybody.Certain medical conditions, medications, recent surgery or ongoing medical investigations may mean that treatment needs to be postponed or is not suitable for you. This is why every Riverstone client completes a health questionnaire before treatment. I will consider your medical history, current medication and individual circumstances before deciding whether it is appropriate to proceed. If there is any uncertainty, I may ask you to obtain further medical advice or clearance before treatment.
I'm Under Investigation for a Medical Problem. Can I Still Have a Colonic?
Please let me know before treatment. Depending on what is being investigated, it may be appropriate to postpone your colonic until your investigations have been completed and the results are known. If you are unsure, please contact me before booking.
I've Recently Had Surgery. Can I Have Treatment?
This will depend on the type of surgery, how recently it was performed, your recovery and whether you have been medically discharged. Please contact me before booking if you have recently undergone surgery so that we can discuss your individual circumstances.
Can I Have a Colonic if I Take Medication?
Taking medication does not automatically mean that you cannot have colonic hydrotherapy. However, some medications and the conditions for which they are prescribed can affect whether treatment is appropriate. Please include all medication on your health questionnaire, including prescribed and regular over-the-counter medication.
I Have a Medical Condition and I'm Not Sure Whether I Can Book. What Should I Do?
Please get in touch before booking.I would much rather you ask than worry about it. I can discuss your circumstances with you and advise whether further information or medical clearance is needed before arranging treatment.
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
After your treatment.
What Happens After a Colonic?
Everyone responds differently. You may have another bowel movement later in the day, while others may not. I will discuss aftercare with you following your treatment and answer any questions you have before you leave.
Can I Go Back to Work Afterwards?
Most people are able to continue with their normal day following their appointment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
There is no set number that is right for everyone. I prefer to take an individual approach rather than automatically recommending a course of treatments. We can discuss how you respond and whether you feel another appointment would be appropriate.
